It depends on your nationality and the permit type — there is no universal list, and this is exactly where most applications run into trouble. After the consultation you receive a checklist tailored to your case, and we also tell you which documents need certified translation and help coordinate it.

Both. Consultations are held online or in person in Budapest — whichever suits you better. If you are still abroad, the entire pre-arrival consultation runs online; meeting in person only becomes necessary if your case later requires accompaniment to the authority.

A consultation can usually be booked within 2–3 business days. Emergency cases are different: an expiring permit or a running appeal deadline is assessed on the day you contact us.

An application to issue or extend a residence permit can be submitted no earlier than 90 days before your intended stay begins — or, in the case of an extension, before your current permit expires. Individual permit types may follow different deadlines, and those determine which documents you need, the timeline, and which steps fall to your employer rather than to you. What matters most: the earlier the application starts, the stronger your position — so it is always worth aiming for that.
